The Church at WorkThe local church is increasingly being recognized as an important node for development in communities. We choose to work alongside local churches in response to the particular needs of their communities. This means we are involved in capacity building, mobilising resources, and making people and services available in a manner determined, driven and owned by a local church. The fact that Churches provide a very effective vehicle for the implementation of community based development programmes is well known. This is because Churches offer a very extensive, viable and organised network of institutions at both local and national levels for development of this kind. The reasons for this are: strong legitimacy and authority in the community; a moral obligation to care for the most vulnerable, especially children; a sustainable and long term presence; access to national and international networks; excellent local knowledge of families that can assist in identifying those that are most vulnerable; and an ability to mobilise volunteers for support and care both locally and internationally.
