THE NEED FOR DE-BRIEFING AND COUNSELLING IN THE CURRENT DISPLACED PEOPLE CRISIS SITUATION:
VOLUNTEER DE-BRIEFING AND COUNSELLING NEED
The Trauma Counselling Centre in Woodstock has been asked by the City of Cape Town to co ordinate the de-briefing of all displaced people in the 6 main city care and Safety Centres in Cape Town. They have come up with a mass intervention strategy (studies done in similar situations worldwide) to respond to the current trauma situation people are facing. They have indicated that in-depth trauma counselling is not advisable at this time rather a strategy of group connecting processes and calming exercises. In this regard the Trauma Centre is offering de-briefing sessions at the Trauma Centre in Woodstock. The briefing sessions are user friendly and easy to implement in 45minutes. If you are a qualified lay counsellor, social worker, psychologist then they need your help in these centres. For further information and to attend a de-briefing training session contact: norma@trauma.org.za Or: The Trauma Centre Cowley House 126 Chapel Street Woodstock Tel: 021 465 7373 Website: www.trauma.org.za
